On May 22, 2019, 23-year-old Omar Martin was fatally shot during a dispute while traveling on a MetroLink train in St. Louis County, Missouri. The incident began around 11:50 a.m. as the eastbound red line train approached the St. Charles Rock Road station near Pagedale. According to investigators, Martin became involved in an altercation with another male passenger.
As the train came to a stop at the station, the dispute escalated when the other individual produced a firearm and shot Martin in the abdomen.
Following the shooting, the assailant exited the train and fled the scene on foot, reportedly discarding the weapon in nearby bushes as he escaped. Emergency responders arrived at the station and transported the male victim to a local hospital for urgent medical attention. Despite these efforts, Martin succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival. Witnesses at the scene provided descriptions that assisted law enforcement in their subsequent search for the shooter.
Police identified the suspect as 21-year-old Isaiah Liddell of St. Louis. He was taken into custody on Friday, May 31, 2019, more than a week after the homicide occurred. Prosecutors subsequently charged Liddell with one count of second-degree murder, one count of armed criminal action, and one count of tampering with physical evidence in a felony prosecution. Following his arrest, a judge set his bond at $250,000, cash only.
