On August 5, 2024, at approximately 6 a.m., Kansas City, Missouri, police responded to reports of gunfire near 38th Street and Pittman Avenue. The call was subsequently updated to a shooting incident behind a business located in the 9800 block of East U.S. 40 Highway. Upon arrival, officers were directed to a wooded area behind the business, identified as a homeless encampment.
