On the evening of September 12, 2024, Kansas City police responded to a reported shooting at an apartment complex in the 6300 block of Manchester Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered 36-year-old Michael D. Porter unresponsive with gunshot wounds; he was pronounced dead at the scene.
