On the evening of September 12, 2024, authorities in Kansas City, Missouri, were alerted to a violent disturbance at an apartment complex located in the 6300 block of Manchester Avenue. Responding to reports of a shooting around 9:45 p.m., officers arrived at the scene to find Michael D. Porter, a 36-year-old Black male, unresponsive inside one of the residences.
He had sustained apparent gunshot wounds, and despite the immediate efforts of emergency responders to detect signs of life, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The initial investigation by Kansas City police indicated that the fatal encounter stemmed from a verbal altercation between the victim and another individual. This argument quickly escalated into violence, resulting in the shooting. The suspect, described only as another adult male, fled the premises before law enforcement could arrive. Detectives processed the scene for evidence and interviewed potential witnesses in the days following the event, but no immediate apprehension was made.
As of late 2025, the case remained open with no arrests reported in connection with the homicide. Police continued to search for the unidentified suspect, urging anyone with information to come forward.
