A 45-year-old man, Keith Holland, was fatally shot in the early morning hours of New Year's Day in Newark, New Jersey. The incident took place on January 1, 2023, inside a residence on Rose Terrace. Holland, a resident of Newark, sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after authorities arrived.
Reports indicate the shooting occurred at approximately 7:51 a.m. inside a house in the Central Ward.
Neighbors reported hearing several loud popping noises, which were followed by screaming from within the residence where a New Year's celebration was reportedly taking place. When police responded to reports of a possible shooting, they discovered Holland with fatal injuries.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force is leading the investigation into the shooting. To date, authorities have not released a motive for the killing. The investigation is active and ongoing, and no arrests have been announced, nor have any suspects been publicly identified in connection with the death of Keith Holland.
