In March of 2023, the life of Nyeisha Sakia Saunders, a 41-year-old female from Trenton, New Jersey, was tragically cut short. On a Sunday evening, at a residence located at the intersection of Monroe Street and Pennington Avenue, Saunders was fatally shot multiple times by her ex-boyfriend, 46-year-old Antione Brown. The violent encounter also resulted in her 19-year-old son sustaining a gunshot wound to his hand.

Following the shooting of Saunders and her son, Brown fled the scene. He was later discovered by police at another location on Pennington Avenue. There, he was found deceased from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. The weapon believed to have been used in both incidents was found next to his body.

Known affectionately as 'Nye,' Nyeisha Saunders was a graduate of the Burlington City School District and had been a student at the Berkel Training Institute. Her life was remembered by friends and family as one filled with love, laughter, and a passion for travel and exploring new places. Funeral services were held in her memory in early April of the same year.
