In a tragic turn of events that shook the Trenton, New Jersey community, 40-year-old Malika Whiting was found deceased in her home on Saturday, April 12, 2025. The grim discovery was made around 10:30 a.m. at a residence on the 300 block of West State Street after police received a 911 call reporting two deceased individuals. Upon their arrival, officers found Ms.
Whiting on the stairway leading to the third floor, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound.
The tragedy was compounded by the discovery of Whiting's 13-year-old daughter, Jairah Biggs, in a third-floor bedroom, also a victim of a gunshot wound. Both mother and daughter were pronounced dead at the scene. The shocking nature of the crime prompted an immediate and intensive investigation by the Mercer County Homicide Task Force and the Trenton Police Department. Friends and family remembered Malika as a loving mother who was funny and cheerful.
The investigation swiftly led to a person of interest, and a few days later, on Thursday, April 17, 2025, authorities announced an arrest in connection with the double homicide. Bahin Lynch, a 45-year-old resident of Trenton and identified as Malika Whiting's ex-boyfriend, was taken into custody. He was charged with two counts of first-degree murder, along with several weapons-related offenses, including possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon.
Following his arrest, Lynch was held at the Mercer County Correction Center, with the prosecutor's office stating their intention to file a motion to detain him pending trial. While a motive for the horrific act was not immediately disclosed by law enforcement, the incident was described by Trenton's mayor as a likely case of domestic violence. The community was left to mourn the devastating loss of a mother and her young daughter, a sentiment echoed by city officials who vowed to seek justice for the victims and their family.
