In the early morning hours of July 30, 2021, the life of a vibrant 23-year-old Black transgender woman, Shai Vanderpump, was tragically cut short in Trenton, New Jersey. Known as a fierce advocate for the LGBTQ+ community, Vanderpump was discovered by police at a residence on Kelsey Avenue around 4:40 a.m., having sustained a gunshot wound to the face. She was swiftly transported to a nearby hospital, but her injuries proved fatal, and she was pronounced dead shortly after her arrival.
