In the early evening of June 28, 2023, the life of 35-year-old Kyle Wilson of Mantua was tragically cut short in Camden, New Jersey. Wilson, a male, was found suffering from a gunshot wound at the intersection of South 8th Street and Morgan Street at approximately 6:38 p.m. having flagged down Camden County Police Department officers for help. He was rushed to Cooper University Hospital by the officers who found him, but he was pronounced deceased shortly after at about 6:55 p.m.
The
investigation into Wilson's death swiftly led to a suspect: his 31-year-old ex-girlfriend, Shanika Gideon, of Camden. Less than a week after the fatal shooting, Gideon was located and apprehended in Flemington, New Jersey, by the U.S. Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force. Her arrest brought a significant development in a case that authorities described as the fatal shooting of an ex-boyfriend.
Following her capture, Shanika Gideon was charged with first-degree murder in connection with Kyle Wilson's death. In addition to the murder charge, she also faced charges of second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon and second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. After her arrest, Gideon was remanded to the Camden County Correctional Facility to await a future detention hearing in Superior Court.
