In the late evening hours of August 30, 2023, tragedy struck on a street in Newark, New Jersey, forever altering the lives of those connected to Andre Shoulars. A 49-year-old male from the nearby town of Irvington, Shoulars became the victim of a fatal shooting that cut his life short. The incident unfolded on the 100 block of Goodwin Avenue, a residential area that would soon become the scene of an active homicide investigation.
Newark police officers were the first to arrive,
responding to a report of gunfire at approximately 9:17 p.m. Upon their arrival, they discovered Shoulars outside, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was immediately transported to University Hospital, where medical personnel fought to save his life. Despite their efforts, Andre Shoulars was pronounced dead at 9:50 p.m.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force has taken the lead in the investigation into Shoulars' death. At this time, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, and authorities have not publicly identified any suspects.
