In the early morning hours of March 9, 2024, the McGinley Square neighborhood of Jersey City was disturbed by the sound of gunfire, an event that would mark the city's first homicide of the year. Thirty-three-year-old Christopher Terrero Marte, a male resident of Jersey City, was fatally wounded in the incident that unfolded on Jordan Avenue, between Mercer and Vroom Streets.
Two other men, a 28-year-old from Union City and a 31-year-old from Jersey City, also sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the triple shooting.
Just before 6:30 a.m., the Jersey City Police Department was alerted to reports of shots fired in the area. Upon arrival, they discovered a crime scene but no victims. The three wounded men had been transported by private vehicles to the Jersey City Medical Center. Despite medical efforts, Christopher Terrero Marte was pronounced dead at 7:35 a.m.
The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office Homicide Unit, in conjunction with the Jersey City Police Department, launched a thorough investigation into the shooting. Their efforts led to the identification and arrest of two suspects. On March 11, 2024, Francisco Salcedo, a 42-year-old resident of Jersey City, was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office in Secaucus. He was charged with aggravated assault and weapons offenses.
A second suspect, Joseph Del Valle, a 36-year-old from the neighboring city of Hoboken, was apprehended on March 26, 2024, on Summit Avenue in Jersey City. Del Valle faced more severe charges, including murder, two counts of aggravated assault, and multiple weapons offenses. Both men were taken to the Hudson County Correctional Facility to await their court proceedings.
