In the early hours of a Tuesday morning in Newark, New Jersey, the life of 34-year-old Natasha Ellis was tragically cut short. On April 16, 2024, in the Vailsburg section of the city, gunfire erupted near the intersection of South Orange Avenue and Alexander Street. When police arrived at the scene shortly after 12:30 a.m., they found Ms. Ellis unresponsive.
The violent episode, which also resulted in another individual sustaining gunshot wounds and a third person being struck by a
vehicle while trying to escape the chaos, ended with Ms. Ellis being pronounced dead by medical personnel. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear.
Following an investigation by the Essex County Prosecutor's Office, a suspect was identified and apprehended. On May 15, 2024, the U.S. Marshal's Fugitive Task Force arrested 18-year-old Ramzee Mitchell. He is now facing charges of murder and robbery in connection with the death of Natasha Ellis.
