Carley Elbert was a 32-year-old White female from Sewell, New Jersey, who was finding her voice again after a long and difficult battle with a rare illness. An aspiring freestyle rapper who her mother said found her passion in music, Carley had recently gone into remission from mast cell disease after years of hospitalizations. Her family described her as a loving and caring person with a "silly quirky sense of humor" who was finally feeling healthy and strong enough to pursue her own life.
In the pre-dawn hours of August 1, 2024, that life was cut short. Police responded to a call around 4:40 a.m. and found two women on a jetty near the Flagship Resort on the Atlantic City boardwalk. Carley Elbert was unconscious and unresponsive, having been shot in the head. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Alongside her was her friend, 29-year-old Kamille Stewart of Pleasantville, who was also shot in the head but was found conscious and transported to a local medical center for treatment.
The investigation moved swiftly, aided by surveillance footage and a crucial tip from Carley's own mother. Security video from the resort reportedly showed three men and two women walking onto the boardwalk around 2 a.m. About 20 minutes later, only the three men were seen returning to a car and driving away. While interviewing Carley's mother, investigators learned she was tracking her daughter's phone, which pinged to a location on Mulberry Street in Philadelphia.
Later that same day, authorities from the Atlantic City Police Department, the FBI, and the Philadelphia Police Department converged on the address and arrested three men. Gregg Page, then 34, was identified as the primary suspect. Investigators alleged he fled the scene in one of the victim’s cars before abandoning it and being picked up by two brothers, 30-year-old Ryan Schenck and 27-year-old Ramir Schenck, who drove him to Philadelphia.
Gregg Page was charged with murder, attempted murder, and weapons offenses, while the Schenck brothers were charged with hindering apprehension. In October 2024, an Atlantic County grand jury indicted all three men on their respective charges. The case reached its conclusion when the defendants entered guilty pleas.
In April 2026, Gregg Page pleaded guilty to first-degree aggravated manslaughter for the death of Carley Elbert, first-degree attempted murder for the shooting of Kamille Stewart, and a weapons offense. His co-defendants, Ryan and Ramir Schenck, also pleaded guilty to third-degree hindering an investigation.
During the sentencing hearing in June 2026, the court heard from the surviving victim and Carley Elbert's family. A judge sentenced Gregg Page to 50 years in New Jersey state prison, ordering the sentences for each of his charges to be served consecutively.
