On May 16, 2023, at approximately 1:02 a.m., Hampton police responded to a reported shooting in the 400 block of Alleghany Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered two individuals, 42-year-old Benita J. Mozelle of Hampton and 26-year-old Troy L. James of Newport News, lying in the roadway with gunshot wounds. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene by Hampton Fire and Rescue.
