On May 16, 2023, at approximately 1:02 a.m., Hampton Police responded to reports of a shooting in the 400 block of Allegheny Road in Hampton, Virginia. Upon arrival, officers discovered 42-year-old Benita J. Mozelle of Hampton and 26-year-old Troy L. James of Newport News lying in the roadway with gunshot wounds. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene by Hampton Fire and Rescue.
