On a Sunday afternoon in Charlottesville, Virginia, police responded to a call on South Street. There, they discovered the body of William Albie Barksdale III. A 72-year-old male, Barksdale was found deceased at the scene on June 25, 2023.

Subsequent investigation by the Charlottesville Police Department led them to conclude that Barksdale had suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound. In an official statement released the following day, authorities confirmed the nature of his death.
