In the quiet community of Spotsylvania, a tragedy unfolded on the evening of Wednesday, October 4, 2023, forever altering the lives of a local family. On that night, authorities were called to a home on the 4000 block of Bonnie Brae Court, where they discovered 85-year-old Patsy C. Howard suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to her upper body. She was rushed to Mary Washington Hospital, but tragically, she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.

violent death of the elderly woman quickly led to a suspect close to home. Her husband, 85-year-old David C. Howard, was taken into custody in connection with the fatal shooting.
