On October 15, 2023, at approximately 6:31 a.m., Richmond Police officers responded to a report of a person shot in the 1500 block of Columbia Street in Richmond's Southside. Upon arrival, they discovered 49-year-old Julius Brown unresponsive in the driver's seat of a pickup truck. Brown had sustained an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators determined that he had been driving southbound on Columbia Street when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree.
