Michael Jerome Hairston, a 46-year-old male from Martinsville, Virginia, was found deceased in his apartment on Summit View Drive on October 23, 2023. A welfare check was initiated after he failed to show up for work. Upon entering the residence, deputies from the Henry County Sheriff's Office discovered Hairston's body. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner later determined that he had died from a gunshot wound to the head.
The investigation into Hairston's death revealed that the
homicide likely occurred two days prior to the discovery of his body. Investigators determined that Hairston had returned to his apartment at approximately 5:12 p.m. on October 21, 2023. Crucial evidence came from a neighbor's doorbell camera, which recorded two individuals, a male and a female, arriving at Hairston's residence around 7:08 p.m. The footage showed the pair entering the apartment and then fleeing several minutes later. Further investigation identified a 2008 Audi leaving the area shortly after the time of the incident.
This evidence led authorities to identify two suspects in the case. The first to be apprehended was 19-year-old Angelina Jai'lynn Spade of Hardy, Virginia. She was arrested in Roanoke. Shortly thereafter, the second suspect, 44-year-old Louis Jerrell Webb of Ferrum, was also taken into custody. Webb was already being held at the New River Valley Regional Jail on an unrelated charge.
In May 2024, a Henry County grand jury handed down indictments against both Spade and Webb. Angelina Spade was indicted on charges of first-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder. Louis Jerrell Webb faced more severe charges, including aggravated murder for hire and conspiracy to commit aggravated murder for hire. He was also indicted on charges of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a violent felon.
