In the late hours of an autumn evening in Atlanta, Georgia, a violent encounter abruptly ended the life of Phillip Carter, a 58-year-old male. On the night of October 10, 2015, Carter and another man were on Perkerson Road, in the vicinity of Metropolitan Parkway and Cleveland Avenue, when they were targeted in a robbery. The assailants, not content with just theft, opened fire on both men.
Carter sustained fatal injuries during the attack and died, while the other man was wounded but survived.
The harrowing account of the surviving victim provided investigators with the only description of the individuals responsible for this brutal crime. According to his statement, at least three people were involved in the robbery and homicide. The group, consisting of two men and a woman, fled the scene in what was described as a dark-colored Dodge Caravan from the 1990s. The survivor's recollection offered a few more specific details about the suspects who orchestrated the deadly roadside ambush.
Based on the survivor's testimony, one of the male suspects was described as a young, short, and thin Black man who was dressed in all black, including a black skullcap. This individual was believed to be the passenger in the van and the one who fired the shots. Another man was driving the vehicle, and a woman was riding in the back of the Caravan. In the immediate aftermath, police sought help from the public to identify and locate the three suspects. However, there have been no subsequent reports of any arrests being made in connection with the murder of Phillip Carter, and the case remains unresolved.
