On the evening of September 20, 2024, in a home on Sea Palling Lane in Chesapeake, Virginia, a domestic dispute escalated into a fatal shooting. Christopher Heck, a 41-year-old Caucasian male, was found by police with serious gunshot wounds near the front entrance of his residence and was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident unfolded at approximately 7:57 p.m.

His wife, 46-year-old Heather Heck, was present when officers arrived and allegedly admitted to shooting her husband. According to court documents, Heather Heck told investigators she shot her husband twice to protect their children. An argument had reportedly broken out over the behavior of their two children and two visiting friends who were having a sleepover. Heather Heck claimed that Christopher became aggressive, threatening to 'make them quiet' because they were being loud. She stated that as he started to go upstairs toward where the children were, she retrieved a gun from a bedroom and shot him.
This event was preceded by a history of domestic trouble. Months before the shooting, in April 2024, Heather Heck had been granted a temporary Emergency Protective Order against her husband, citing threats of harm. The order, however, had expired in May 2024.
Following the shooting, Heather Heck was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Despite objections from prosecutors, she was later granted a $100,000 bond and placed on electronic monitoring pending further legal proceedings.
