Responding officers arrived at the scene to find a chaotic environment with evidence of the shooting scattered across the premises. Law enforcement discovered Melvin lying on his back near the entrance of the bar, suffering from critical gunshot wounds. Despite the immediate medical attention and transport to a local hospital, the injuries proved fatal. He was pronounced dead at approximately 4:30 a.m., marking the county's first homicide of the year.
