On February 16, 2023, 15-year-old Jabreon J. Singleton was fatally shot on Steeplechase Drive in Walterboro, South Carolina. Responding to reports of gunfire, Colleton County Sheriff's deputies arrived at the scene to find Singleton with critical injuries. Despite prompt medical attention, he succumbed to his injuries.

The Colleton County Coroner's Office later confirmed Singleton's identity.
