On April 22, 2023, 22-year-old Wyatt Kincaid Short was fatally shot near the intersection of Old Shirley Road and Sheriff Road in Central, South Carolina. Deputies from the Pickens County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene around 10 p.m., discovering Short lying in front of a residence with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was airlifted to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
