In the early evening of Thursday, June 8, 2023, tragedy struck in North Charleston, South Carolina, forever altering the lives of a local family and community. Armien Jervane Jones Jr., a 19-year-old Black male, was fatally shot outside a convenience store on Dorchester Road. The incident unfolded shortly before 8:30 p.m., a time when the area was likely still bustling with activity.
North Charleston Police Department officers were dispatched to the A-1 convenience store located at 4106
Dorchester Road following a report of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered a grim scene in the parking lot. Jones and two other males, one of whom was a juvenile, were found suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite immediate medical attention, Armien Jones Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene, his life cut tragically short. The two other victims were quickly transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of their injuries. Later, an 18-year-old woman also arrived at the hospital with injuries connected to the same shooting incident.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, the owner of the convenience store expressed his distress, emphasizing that the violent act had no connection to his business and that he and his establishment were innocent bystanders caught in the crossfire. The North Charleston Police Department, in conjunction with the Charleston County Coroner's Office, launched a joint investigation into the homicide.
