On the evening of June 19, 2023, David Roldan-Dimas, a 20-year-old male, was fatally shot while inside his black Chevrolet Camaro in the parking lot of a Planet Fitness in the Carolina Forest area near Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. A student at Coastal Carolina University studying business administration, Roldan-Dimas had just finished a 13-hour workday and had met his girlfriend and her brother at the gym. After their workout, he was waiting in his car when the incident occurred.
Police responded to a report of a shooting around 11 p.m. and found Roldan-Dimas with multiple gunshot wounds. His vehicle had collided with a parked Nissan. Despite attempts by officers to perform CPR, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the death of Roldan-Dimas, who was from York County, led authorities to two suspects from Bridgeport, Connecticut: Abdullah Seifullah and Branden Huertas. More than a year after the shooting, in November 2024, 43-year-old Branden Huertas was arrested and charged with murder. The motive for the killing appeared to be the theft of Roldan-Dimas's car, which was described as his 'pride and joy.' Investigators determined that Seifullah and Huertas had wrecked their own vehicle and were looking for a way to get back to Connecticut.
The legal process unfolded over the following months. Branden Huertas ultimately pleaded guilty to accessory to murder. He was later sentenced to 15 years in prison, with the sentence suspended upon serving 10 years, followed by three years of probation. Abdullah Seifullah, who was 45 at the time of the trial, faced charges of murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and criminal conspiracy. In June 2025, a jury found Seifullah guilty of murder and the weapons charge after nearly three hours of deliberation. He was subsequently sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. During the trial, prosecutors presented evidence that included security camera footage and testimony from a witness who said Seifullah and Huertas had borrowed her car on the night of the murder.
