On July 8, 2023, 18-year-old Rashard Sharquavious Wright was fatally shot at the Culpepper Landing Apartments in Duncan, South Carolina. Wright, a recent graduate and football player from James F. Byrnes High School, was preparing to attend Benedict College on an athletic and academic scholarship.
