In the summer of 2023, the life of 22-year-old Darion Antangalo Antonio Jones was cut tragically short in Chester, South Carolina. On Sunday, July 23, 2023, Jones was fatally shot in what authorities have described as an ambush. The incident occurred off Saluda Street, where he was shot multiple times. A shot to the head was determined to be the fatal wound.
The investigation into the death of the young male led to the identification and arrest of two suspects who were subsequently
charged with murder. Days after the shooting, law enforcement apprehended John Antionia Frenchis Lowery, 31, of Chester. He was charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. According to the arrest warrant, Lowery and a co-defendant fled the scene in a gray Nissan after shooting at Jones.
Several months later, a second suspect was taken into custody. On December 5, 2023, Antonio Woods Heath, 33, of Rock Hill, was arrested and also charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. Authorities stated that Heath fired at Jones multiple times in the ambush. In connection with Heath's arrest, a third individual, 32-year-old Jessica Bonita Camps of Union County, was charged with obstructing justice for allegedly hiding and harboring Heath before he was captured.
Both Lowery and Heath are being held in the Chester County jail. The arrests brought some measure of progress in a case that has deeply affected the community, as family and friends continue to mourn the loss of Darion Antangalo Antonio Jones.
