On July 27, 2023, 58-year-old Alvin "AL" Simmons of Lexington, South Carolina, was fatally shot during an altercation in the 5500 block of North Main Street in Columbia. The incident occurred around 5 p.m. and reportedly stemmed from a dispute in the parking lot of an auto shop.
