In the early morning hours of August 9, 2023, the life of 33-year-old Chadrick J. McKnight was tragically cut short in his hometown of Kingstree, South Carolina. Known affectionately as C.J. to his friends and family, the Black male became the victim of a fatal shooting that occurred on Cypress Avenue. The Williamsburg County Coroner's Office later confirmed his identity, and an autopsy was scheduled to determine the precise cause of his death.

Carolina, to Rozena and Chester McKnight, Chadrick was a 2008 graduate of Kingstree Senior High School. During his time there, he was a dedicated member of the Mighty Jaguars football team, playing as a guard, tackle, and defender. He was remembered for his compassionate and protective nature, as well as a smile that was ever-present. A loving father, he leaves behind four children: Nyzire Jahmahd McKnight, Armoni Zyaire McKnight, Aiden Syncere Wilborn, and Amira Serenity Wilborn.
As the community mourned the loss of a son, father, and friend, the investigation into his untimely death commenced.
