On August 24, 2023, 29-year-old Jaylan Sarah Hasty was found deceased in her apartment in Columbia, South Carolina, the victim of an apparent domestic violence incident. Emergency responders discovered her with fatal gunshot wounds, and her ex-boyfriend, 31-year-old Kenardo Bates, was also present with self-inflicted gunshot injuries. Authorities believe Bates shot Hasty before turning the gun on himself.
