In the quiet town of Greer, South Carolina, the life of 31-year-old Tyyanna Cenkia Lewis, a Black/African American female, was tragically cut short on January 30, 2024. What unfolded on that Tuesday night was a grim scene that authorities would later describe as an apparent murder-suicide.
Officers from the Greer Police Department were dispatched to the Kendrick Apartments on Austin Street after receiving a call about two unresponsive individuals.
Inside one of the units, they discovered the bodies of Tyyanna Lewis and 32-year-old David Antonio Parks. Both were residents of the apartment.
The Spartanburg County Coroner's Office was called to the scene and pronounced both individuals dead. In the ensuing investigation, officials began to piece together the final moments of their lives. The coroner’s office is investigating Lewis's death as a homicide, a life taken by violence. Parks' death, on the other hand, is being investigated as a suicide.
While the Greer Police Department continues to investigate the case, the preliminary findings point towards a murder-suicide, indicating that Parks' actions led to Lewis's death before he took his own life. As the investigation is being treated as a murder-suicide, there are no outstanding suspects being sought by law enforcement. The community was left to mourn the loss of Tyyanna Lewis, a life ended in a sudden and violent act.
