On May 16, 2003, Margaret "Maggie" Barnes, along with her husband Dr. James "Eb" Barnes and bank teller Sylvia Holtzclaw, were tragically murdered during a robbery at the Blue Ridge Savings Bank in Greer, South Carolina. The couple had gone to the bank to transfer money into an IRA account when an unknown assailant entered, robbing the bank and leading all three victims into the back room.
