On a late winter evening on Wadmalaw Island, South Carolina, the life of 38-year-old Elijah Maurice Jones, a Black male, was tragically cut short. On February 16, 2024, Charleston County Sheriff's deputies were called to the 6200 block of Maybank Highway around 10 p.m. following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Jones with a gunshot wound. Despite any efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
