On a spring evening in Summerville, South Carolina, the lives of two teenagers were tragically cut short. On April 19, 2024, 18-year-old Tyrell Kishi Epps and 19-year-old Ashton Pugh were sitting in a vehicle in the parking lot of the Gates of Summerville apartment complex on Boone Hill Road. It was here that both young men were fatally shot in a violent encounter that would soon launch a double homicide investigation by the Summerville Police Department.
Tyrell was a young Black man from the Summerville area.
In the days and weeks that followed, the community was left reeling from the senseless act of violence as investigators worked to piece together the events of that night. The initial stages of the investigation yielded few public leads, and authorities appealed to the community for any information that could help bring those responsible to justice. The case remained a primary focus for law enforcement, who were determined to solve the brutal killings of the two teenagers.
By late June 2024, the investigation made significant headway, leading to the arrests of four individuals in connection with the murders. Zamauri Tyren Vashaun Brown and Travon Keith Wilson were both charged with two counts of murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. Another suspect, Khamari Lavon Sease, was also charged with two counts of murder. A fourth individual, a juvenile, was charged with misprision of a felony, indicating they had knowledge of the crime but failed to report it to law enforcement. The arrests marked a crucial turning point in the case, bringing a measure of hope to the grieving families that justice would be served for Tyrell and Ashton.
