On the afternoon of Wednesday, December 17, 2025, a fatal shooting occurred at the Kilnsea Village Apartments located on Patron Place. Kendall Tyshaun Merrick, a 24-year-old male from Summerville, South Carolina, was discovered in the parking lot of the complex suffering from a gunshot wound. The incident was brought to the attention of authorities when a North Charleston police officer was flagged down by a bystander just before 5:00 p.m.
to report the shooting.
Upon discovering the wounded man, the officer immediately began administering life-saving measures while awaiting further medical assistance. Dorchester County EMS arrived at the scene to provide advanced care, but their efforts were ultimately unsuccessful. Merrick was pronounced dead at the location around 5:20 p.m. Detectives from the North Charleston Police Department responded to the scene to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death, focusing their inquiries on the events that transpired in the apartment complex's parking area.
Law enforcement officials quickly identified a suspect in connection with the shooting. Julian Shane Issa, a 21-year-old resident of Summerville, was arrested by North Charleston detectives. Following the initial investigation, Issa was charged with involuntary manslaughter. He was subsequently transported to the Dorchester County Jail to be booked and held as the legal proceedings commenced. The investigation remains active under the jurisdiction of the North Charleston Police Department.
