On the afternoon of Wednesday, December 17, 2025, a fatal shooting occurred at the Kilnsea Village Apartments located on Patron Place. Kendall Tyshaun Merrick, a 24-year-old male from Summerville, South Carolina, was discovered in the parking lot of the complex suffering from a gunshot wound. The incident was brought to the attention of authorities when a North Charleston police officer was flagged down by a bystander just before 5:00 p.m. to report the shooting.
