In the early morning hours of June 12, 2024, Steven W. Hughes, a 46-year-old man from Lexington, South Carolina, was shot and killed in southeast Columbia. He was working for a towing company, carrying out a vehicle repossession on Fairmont Road when the fatal incident occurred. A Richland County sheriff's deputy discovered the tow truck with its flashers on and the driver's side door open. The door had been shot multiple times.
