On June 12, 2024, 46-year-old Steven Wayne Hughes Jr., a tow truck driver from Lexington, South Carolina, was fatally shot while attempting to repossess a vehicle in Columbia. The incident occurred in the early morning hours on Fairmont Road, where Hughes was found with multiple gunshot wounds inside his tow truck. He was transported to a local hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
