In the summer of 2024, a young life full of promise was tragically cut short in a violent encounter. Isis Lorena Johnson, a 19-year-old female, died on Sunday, July 14, 2024, in Goose Creek, South Carolina, a community near Summerville. She was born on April 23, 2005, in Charleston, South Carolina, to her parents Erica Johnson and Paul Grant. Described as a hardworking and determined individual, Isis was looking forward to completing her high school education in December of the same year.
Those who knew her remember a vibrant personality with a gift for dancing and a unique sense of style.
The events that led to her untimely death unfolded around noon at the Passage Apartments on Underwood Lane. A family dispute escalated into a fatal shooting that left one dead and three others injured. Isis was either in a vehicle or attempting to enter one with two other young women, aged 16 and 20, when a male relative approached them and opened fire. Isis Lorena Johnson sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Her death has been ruled a homicide. The two other female victims were transported to local hospitals for treatment.
Following the shooting, the suspect, an 18-year-old man, fled the scene in a vehicle. He was apprehended by Berkeley County Sheriff's Office deputies when they stopped his vehicle as it entered the campus of Roper St. Francis Berkeley hospital, which is located about a mile from the apartment complex. It was determined that the suspect had shot himself after shooting the three women, sustaining a non-life-threatening injury. He was taken into custody and was slated to be transported to the Berkeley County Detention Center upon his release from the hospital.
