In the early morning hours of August 4, 2024, a dispute in Denmark, South Carolina, ended in the death of 33-year-old Juston Erving. The incident, which unfolded around 3:30 a.m. on Sato Avenue, escalated from an altercation to a fatal shootout.
Authorities state that an argument occurred between Erving and another man, identified as 42-year-old Aubrey Priester Jr. of Barnwell. During the confrontation, Erving reportedly drew a firearm and began shooting at a trailer.
In response, Priester is said to have produced his own gun, shooting Erving and causing him to fall to the ground.
According to a witness account, while Erving was on the ground and incapacitated, Priester approached him and shot him multiple times in the upper body and head. Erving was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:15 a.m. from multiple gunshot wounds.
Following the incident, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division arrested Aubrey Priester Jr. He has been charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. Priester was booked into the Bamberg County Detention Center, and the case is set to be prosecuted by the 2nd Circuit Solicitor's Office. He remains in custody without bond.
