On June 8, 2026, in Denmark, South Carolina, 18-year-old Jayviere Cortez Anderson's life was cut tragically short in a violent encounter. The incident unfolded inside a residence on Mimosa Street, where what began as a purported drug transaction escalated into a deadly shooting. According to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division two individuals, Sacarias Jamel Dupree, 21, and his associate, Joshua Weatherspoon, had arranged to meet Anderson with the intention of purchasing drugs.
However, their plans allegedly took a sinister turn as they attempted to rob Anderson at gunpoint. In the ensuing chaos, a hail of gunfire erupted within the home.
The exchange of bullets proved fatal for both Jayviere Cortez Anderson and one of the alleged robbers, Joshua Weatherspoon. A third person inside the residence was also caught in the crossfire, sustaining a gunshot wound to the back of the head as they tried to flee the violent scene. Miraculously, this individual survived the attack. In the immediate aftermath, the other suspect, Sacarias Jamel Dupree, fled the scene, leaving a trail of blood that authorities would later follow. He was discovered at a nearby Dollar General store, suffering from a gunshot wound to his leg. Investigators recovered a Glock. 40 caliber handgun near where Dupree was found, a weapon consistent with the shell casings collected at the crime scene. The surviving victim's description of the suspect's attire, a white T-shirt and blue jeans, also matched the clothing Dupree was wearing when he was located.
Following the incident, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division took charge of the investigation. On June 11, 2026, Sacarias Jamel Dupree of Bamberg County was arrested and booked into the Bamberg County Detention Center. He faces a series of grave charges, including murder for the death of Jayviere Cortez Anderson, attempted murder for the wounding of the third individual, attempted armed robbery, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. The case has been handed over to the 2nd Circuit Solicitor's Office for prosecution. While an arrest has been made, the investigation remains ongoing. As of now, the legal proceedings against Dupree are in their initial stages, and there has been no conviction or sentencing in this case that resulted in the violent end of a young man's life and the death of an alleged accomplice.
