In the early morning hours of a Sunday in Sumter, South Carolina, a domestic dispute tragically escalated, leaving a 34-year-old Black man, Antoin Pugh, dead from a gunshot wound. The incident unfolded on August 18, 2024, when police were dispatched to a residence on Putter Drive around 6:30 a.m. Upon their arrival, they discovered Pugh on the floor with a gunshot wound.
Emergency medical services treated Pugh at the scene before he was transported to Prisma Health Tuomey hospital.
Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at the hospital. An autopsy was scheduled to be performed at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston to officially determine the cause of death.
Inside the residence with Pugh, officers found 23-year-old Jasmine Symone Woods. The preliminary investigation suggested that Pugh and Woods had been in a relationship and were an estranged couple. Authorities believe that a heated argument between the two preceded the fatal shooting.
Jasmine Symone Woods was arrested at the scene and subsequently charged with murder in connection with Antoin Pugh's death. She was taken into custody and booked at the Sumter County Sheriff's Office Detention Center. The investigation into the shooting remained ongoing by the Sumter Police Department and the Sumter County Coroner's Office.
