Death by Force

On the night of September 18, 2024, William Mathis, a 42-year-old resident of Aiken, South Carolina, was fatally shot. Officers from the Aiken Department of Public Safety responded to reports of gunfire on Columbia Avenue Northeast, near Chesterfield Street, where they discovered Mathis with a gunshot wound. He was promptly transported to Aiken Regional Medical Centers but was pronounced dead at 11:13 p.m.
