On a quiet Sunday morning in late September 2024, Marco Antonio Velazquez was a 24-year-old Hispanic man who never made it home from a gathering in Boiling Springs, South Carolina. What began as a planned confrontation between people who already knew one another ended with gunfire, sirens and a neighborhood on Thorn Ridge Drive sealed off by deputies.
