In the early hours of May 21, 2024, the life of 25-year-old Kaylen Devagieo Boston, a Black/African American male from Duncan, South Carolina, was tragically cut short. Just before 12:45 a.m., deputies from the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to Outlook Drive in Boiling Springs following reports of gunfire. Upon their arrival at the apartment complex, they discovered Boston inside a vehicle that had been riddled with bullets.
Despite the immediate life-saving efforts
initiated by the deputies and continued by emergency medical services, Kaylen Devagieo Boston was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation into the fatal shooting quickly commenced, with law enforcement working to piece together the events that led to the violent encounter. The community was left shaken by the incident as they awaited answers.
Within a week of the shooting, investigators identified a suspect in the case. On May 28, 2024, 23-year-old Anthony Dewayne Landrum Jr. of Spartanburg was taken into custody at a residence in Roebuck. Following his arrest, Landrum was charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. He was subsequently booked into the Spartanburg County Detention Center to await a bond hearing.
