In the early morning hours of October 2, 2024, the quiet of the Little Rock community in Dillon County, South Carolina, was shattered by the sound of gunfire. When Dillon County Sheriff's deputies arrived at a residence on Windmill Avenue at approximately 4:01 a.m., they discovered the body of 23-year-old Daiquan Laron Blakely lying in the yard. He had sustained a fatal gunshot wound and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Authorities promptly detained a man at the location of the
shooting. The individual was identified as 20-year-old Jhimir L. Wright, also from the Little Rock area. Following the initial investigation into the circumstances surrounding Blakely's death, Wright was arrested and formally charged with murder. He is currently being held at the Dillon County Detention Center as the investigation into the homicide continues.
The community mourned the loss of the young man, who was a graduate of Dillon High School. Funeral services were held to celebrate the life of Daiquan Blakely, with a public viewing and a celebration of life held at the New Saint Mark Baptist Church. He was laid to rest at Rest Haven Cemetery. The investigation into his death remains active, and authorities have encouraged anyone with information to come forward to assist Detective Shannon Grainger.
