On October 12, 2024, in Summerville, South Carolina, 52-year-old Paul “Tony” Malphrus was fatally shot while attempting to assist a woman during a distressing incident. The woman, accompanied by her small dog, was reportedly attacked by a pit bull on Salkahatchie Street. In response to her calls for help, Malphrus and another man, both riding bicycles nearby, intervened by using their bikes to shield her from the aggressive dog as she retreated toward her residence.
