In the quiet town of Summerville, South Carolina, a sense of unease settled over a neighborhood on Barons Road on November 8, 2018. It was on this Thursday afternoon that the life of 28-year-old Devon Eugene Jones was tragically cut short. Inside his own home, Jones was discovered with a fatal gunshot wound to the head, a discovery that would launch a full-scale homicide investigation by the Dorchester County Sheriff's Office.
The initial shock of the violent act gave way to a determined
pursuit of justice. Investigators worked diligently, and their efforts soon bore fruit. Just over a week later, on November 16, 2018, the Sheriff's Office announced the apprehension of two individuals in connection with Jones's death. The first, a 17-year-old named Christopher Harmon, was taken into custody in Ravenel by the Charleston County Sheriff's Office. The second suspect, 25-year-old Brandon Bivens, was already incarcerated at the Colleton County jail on unrelated charges when he was implicated in the murder.
As the investigation deepened, a narrative of a planned robbery gone horribly wrong began to emerge. According to arrest warrants, Harmon and Bivens had allegedly gone to Jones's residence with the intent to rob him of a controlled substance. During the course of this alleged crime, Devon Eugene Jones was fatally shot. The case was not closed with these two arrests. Law enforcement identified a third person of interest, 27-year-old John Carroll O'Quinn.
