In the quiet community of Summerville, South Carolina, the life of 15-year-old Jose Manuel Nieto Jr. was tragically cut short in a shocking act of violence. On the morning of December 20, 2023, the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of gunfire at the Summer Creek Mobile Home Park. Upon arrival, they discovered a grim scene. Inside one of the mobile homes lay the body of young Jose, and in the roadway, not far from the home, was 21-year-old Ismael A.
Rodriguez of Goose Creek, also deceased. Both had been shot in what authorities are investigating as a double homicide. At the time, no arrests had been made, and the sheriff's office was actively searching for any suspects involved in the brutal killings.
Jose, a resident of North Charleston, was a freshman at Goose Creek High School. He was known for his infectious smile and a vibrant personality that could light up any room. He had a passion for life that was evident in his interests. He loved fashion, expressing himself through his choice of clothing, shoes, and fragrances. He also had a fondness for dining at nice restaurants and spending time at the beach. Music was another one of his great loves; he not only enjoyed listening to it but also creating his own. Friends and family remember him as a jovial person, a jokester who loved to make people laugh. His enthusiasm for sports cars reflected an adventurous spirit.
The untimely death of Jose left a deep void in the hearts of his family and friends. He is survived by his parents, Elvia Chavez and Jose Nieto Sr., his sister, his girlfriend, and a close-knit group of family and friends who cherished him. The family held a visitation for Jose on December 26, 2023, at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home, followed by a Catholic Mass at Immaculate Conception Church on December 27. He was laid to rest at Carolina Memorial Park and Gardens. The investigation into the double homicide of Jose and Ismael remains ongoing as authorities continue to seek answers and justice for the two young lives lost.
