On March 3, 2023, 35-year-old Christopher Charles Bland of Philadelphia, Mississippi, was fatally shot during a domestic altercation at his residence on Highway 16 West. His girlfriend, Stephanie Vance, reported that a 9mm handgun discharged during their confrontation, resulting in Bland's injury. Emergency responders transported Bland to Neshoba General Hospital, and he was later airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.
