In a tragic turn of events on a late winter's day, Christopher Charles Bland, a 35-year-old male, lost his life. The incident that led to his death occurred on Friday, March 3, 2023, in Philadelphia, Mississippi, culminating in his passing the following day at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.
Authorities responded to an emergency call from a residence on Highway 16W, where they found Bland with a gunshot wound. The caller, Stephanie Vance, who was identified as his girlfriend, informed dispatchers that her handgun had discharged, shooting Bland while they were engaged in a fight. First responders provided immediate medical assistance to Bland at the scene before he was transported to Neshoba General Hospital. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was subsequently airlifted to the medical center in Jackson, where he ultimately succumbed to his wounds.
In the wake of the incident, law enforcement detained Stephanie Vance. An 8-month-old child, who was present at the residence during the altercation, was placed in the care of Child Protection Services. Initially, Vance was charged with Aggravated Domestic Violence. However, following Bland's death, the charges against her were upgraded to First-Degree Murder. She was taken into custody and held at the Neshoba County Detention Center, where she was denied bond.
