On a Wednesday evening in Greenville, Mississippi, the life of 42-year-old Derrick Barnes was tragically cut short. On December 13, 2023, at approximately 6:40 p.m., officers from the Greenville Police Department were dispatched to a residence in the 900 block of Caldwell Drive following reports of a homicide. Upon their arrival, they discovered Mr.
Barnes inside, lying on the floor with an apparent gunshot wound.
The initial response quickly turned into a full-fledged homicide investigation as detectives began to process the scene, gathering evidence in an effort to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting. Despite their efforts on the night of the incident and in the days that followed, law enforcement has not yet publicly identified any suspects in the case. No arrests have been made in connection with the death of Derrick Barnes, and the investigation remains active and ongoing.
