On May 14, 2024, 60-year-old Vincent Robert Ratliff of Wesson, Mississippi, was fatally shot during a carjacking at the Wesson Truck Stop on Interstate 55. Ratliff, a regular patron of the establishment, had arrived with his pregnant niece to dine at the buffet-style restaurant. As they sat in their vehicle, an armed individual approached, forced them out, and shot Ratliff. He was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
